V/A-“FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS” 7” (COM25)
Comps like this that COMMITMENT RECORDS put out are always special, especially if you look at Roberts previous comps you’ll see why. Well this is his 25th release and already his silver jubilee, and with this I really look forward to what he’ll put out for his golden jubilee. All the bands, CROSS ME, GUIDING LINE, FAIRFIGHT, X-MEN, VITAMIN X, NORTH, KIDS LIKE US, ONE X MORE, REACHING FORWARD and PRODUCT X all have released fine records for him and you can really tell that there’s a strong bond between his label and those bands. As far as I can tell all these songs are un-released versions, so with that you should be eager to pick this up. This fine 7” is wrapped in the most glorious booklet, with fine cover artwork by Michiel Uppercut, which is 20 pages with loads of photos, artwork of all the releases and writings about how each release came about – it’s all very beautiful and interesting. Definitely another Commitment release for me to treasure. It’s also a benefit for Adele Collins, who used to do I STAND ALONE zine, who is ill at the moment – so make sure you buy and support this cause as well.

THE AGE-S/T 7” (COM26)
An upbeat and energetic, self professed “straightedge” band from Poland. 6 songs, of fastish straight ahead hardcore, with a modern take on youthcrew style that had developed over the past few years from that, that would hitting the decks in the 1980’s. Hard hitting, in that CHAMPION, IN MY EYES school of hardcore, and well done as there’s plenty of life in the music and lyrics. I quite like the line of the song “Breaking News” where Szymek sings “Don’t give me martyrs, I’m waiting for the heroes”, you’ll have to read the rest of the song to see where he’s coming from. Off course there’s the growing with hardcore and not looking back to the past with rose tinted glasses. A good 7” and good to see there’s still good bands coming out of Poland.

THE MIRACLE-“TRUE SPIRIT EP” 7” (COM27)
Italiano hardcore on the rise, this time with THE MIRACLE and these guys got for a more metallic approach compared to most of the bands that have appeared on Commitment Records down the years. Different energy for different times. 6 songs, full of moshy breakdowns, with some fast riffing complement each song. You can just feel the energy as THE MIRACLE belt out their songs from my stereo speakers. Brutal and energetic to say the least. Their lyrics have scene and political related themes and the whole thing looks well wrapped up in a really nice sleeve. COMMITMENT RECORDS, KLEIN MUIDEN 38, 1393 RL NIGTEVECHT, THE NETHERLANDS.

R.A.M.B.O.-“BRING IT” CD&DVD (HC 5023)
Their first LP and split 7” totally floored me and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this and when I found a UK distro selling it (BALD CACTUS) I had to get it. This is everything I expected, and a whole lot more. Everything about this package is what I’d expect from a hardcore band. Great songs, passionate lyrics (serious subjects, but full of humanity and humility, but with a big @ in the face of oppression). A mixture of Scandi crust and US hardcore styles. On top of that you get an amazing DVD, which is broken into three parts. 1. is their tour of Europe, which shows them visiting different places, hanging out, throwing snowballs (hey don’t throw snow balls at Rambo, you might get accused of shooting at them!). 2. is songs from live gigs worldwide, pretty mad stuff and I envy anyone who’s seen them live. 3. is the tour of Asia, no snowballs this time, but plenty of nature and definitely makes a change from angry punk faces. Even the gig in a small village involves parents, kids, babies, punks - what this hardcore scene should be about. Amazing stuff – make sure you get it.

WITCH HUNT-“…AS PRIORITIES DECAY” CD (EXIST066CD)
WOW!!!! One of my favourite bands going these days and that says a lot. The opening of this is an acoustic intro, akin to NAUSEA. But that’s blown to bits with the first riff and blast beat, from hence forth all hell breaks loose and heads rock. The drumming is super fast ala HERESY, but the rest lies firmly on a bed of solid crust and lots of melodic changes that keep everything from flowing along and not going down the pan. WICH HUNT are like a cross between DISAFFECT, TO WHAT END, PROTESTERA and DIASPORA. Every word these girls roar, every beat the three of them blast (there’s 2 girls and 1 guy on this release). I can’t really highlight any song on this, because every single song on this is amazing and each song as important as the next. This CD just takes me into their world, both through the vibes of the music and their worlds. The lyrics are totally amazing, full of political fury, humility and a human presence that surely lacks within the worldwide hardcorepunk scene. Definitely one of the best CD I’ve ever bought. Make sure you get it and their other one too. If anyone can recommend me anything out there as good as this, then I’d love to know.

BEHIND ENEMY LINES-“KNOW YOUR ENEMY” CD (EXIST071CD)
From the ashes of AUS ROTTEN rose BEHIND ENEMY LINES, re re-issue of this that was originally released by TRIBAL WAR. This CD pretty much carries on from what Dave and co were doing in AUS ROTTEN. Great, hard driving punk, with an intense crust sound. Dave’s vocal’s are as brutal as ever and the music only complements this. I honestly don’t know how Dave remembers all these lyrics, phew! BEHIND ENEMY LINES lyrics’ are some of the most political anti-Christian right being sung these days. Society has made a need for them, as long as society is so fucked up and run buy people who haven’t got a clue then I’ll be living my own life (my way), giving them the middle finger and listening to the likes of BEHIND ENEMY LINES. Great CD.

THE COOTERS-“PUNK METAL” CD (EXIST075CD)
Now this is something entirely different. Just look at the title of that CD, you maybe thinking oh fuck? But if like me, after playing this, you’ll not be thinking of it in a negative sense! No, you’ll be up there jumping up and down, banging your head and having a ball. This CD totally floored me, it’s fun music – in that punk fused with metal sense. But it’s not the super heavy stuff, nah!, this is as much a POISON IDEA freaks sound as it is MOTORHEAD. Full of great riffs and stomping tunes, driving songs that will surely win you over. There’s even the odd PISSED riff in there (Newt’s band when he would living with the P.E. folks, a band who released easily one of the best 7”s of the 90’s). If you like good honest music, then look no further, I was very pleasantly surprised by this.

PROVOKED-“PREPARE FOR THE COLD” CD (EXIST076CD)
Holding this CD and looking at the cover, depicting a naked woman cowering in pain after just having given birth to a dead baby, you get the feeling that it won’t be a bundle of laughs. What with bombs falling on an already bleak earth. Sad, angry, whatever it makes you think, these things need to said and pushed in your face, because reality is an unjust horrible place. That said PROVOKED make some astonishing music here. No matter how horrible the world is, it will push people and from the sounds from this CD PROVOKED have been pushed hard. Their brand of fast, heavy crust is definitely music to my ears and having this CD moves me, lifts my heavy heart when things get too much, for the way society is this is quite a lot and these are times when you need this anger. To know that there are brothers and sisters out there, no matter where they live, who care and understand like what you do. Totally amazing CD with some of the most brutal female vocalists you’ll find going today, roaring to the background of modern Scandi/UK crust to the max and great sound/quality, it’s their second release and definitely no let up. If you like E.O.M., E.O.W., HELLKRUSHER, DOOM, UNCURBED etc then you’ll love this.

THE NOTHING-“COMA POEMS” CD (IATDE022)
Shite, this is some of the best metal I’ve heard in a long time. For a genre so over run with copyists this truly is refreshing, even though it’s straight up metal core – done by hardcore geeks. There’s loads of manic blast beats, spazzed vocals and over the top guitar riffs ala SLAYER, INTEGRITY etc. Then they jump ship and your thrown a curve ball with slow heavy moshy breakdowns and smooth pulsating beats. The banshee vocals and eerie horror riffs are enough to send the shivers down your spine. No lyrics, but with song titles like “Coffin Sex” and “Dracula Would Mosh To The Nothing” do you really want to know what they are singing about. Hell, metal never sounded so good.

FOUR LETTER WORD-“LIKE MOTHS TO A FLAME” CD (NEWEST INDUSTRY 015)
The band that time forgot make a welcome return, with this their third full length and second release for Welsh label Newest Industry. I was really looking forward to this as I’ve got all their previous releases, bar the “Crimewave” 7” (although I’ve heard some of the tracks) and have been following their progress from their demo tape. All I can say is that this is one gutsy CD, packed to the gill and full of storming tracks of tuneful hardcore/punk. As each song plays, each one stands proud and defiant on their own, but all have the definite FOUR LETTER WORD trademark (only in the UK ha, ha) written all over them. LIKE MOTHS TO A FLAME has a good gnarly, uplifting beat and hosts a plethora of god like influences wrote all over the backs of their battered ole jackets such as YOUTH BRIGADE, STIFF LITTLE FINGERS, AGENT ORANGE, CHANNEL 3 and DEAD KENNEDYS. Strong bands, but FOUR LETTER WORD are a strong band, they’ve fought hard to keep their name legit and struggled on when those who they thought were their friends dropped them like a ton of bricks. Anyway, 5 souls that are F.L.W. burn with passion and it’s evident with this new CD. They’re definitely not like moths to a flame, because moths get burnt.

FORMER CELL MATES-“HUSTLE” CD (NEWEST INDUSTRY 018)
Quite easily one of the most interesting releases that NEW INDUSTRY has put out, interesting in that it’s got nothing to do with punk rock and they don’t sound like Leatherface (now I’m sure there will those that will argue me wrong, whatever!). Then again, punk is more than sound and the fact that I know nothing about this band they could have a punk lifestyle? Anyway, this CD is full of hook laden riffs that many a rock band would cry for. I can’t really put my finger on it, as I’m not too up on current rock bands and don’t want to look stupid (chuckle, fuck I do that enough already). If you want a CD full of really good, pulsating rock tunes, that are dirty and real then I thoroughly recommend this. If you only listen to punk, then maybe you should get out more.

DEAD STOP-“DONE WITH YOU” CD (DR-58)
After a 7” on REFLEX, DEAD STOP certainly don’t drop any of their urgency with this absolutely stunning and totally crucial release. The NEGATIVE APPROACH influences are scrawled all over it and they pack a mighty punch from start to finish. Hand on my heart they are the best band from Belgium that have the pleasure of coming across my path since the days of NATIONS ON FIRE (and they were a very special band indeed). DEAD STOP have an adrenalin drench bust of hardcore from start to finish. It’s fast as fuck, but not a total blur sense, the have a controlled hardcore assault while delivering a disc of full on manic tunes that will have you shaking your fist in the air in anger as easily as having you tapping your feet. Angry lyrics that while they attack, they do give a positive and think for yourself approach. They stand up for themselves and the scene, calling shots on fakes, glory hunters and just plain selfish greedy people. Cool artwork courtesy of Mid (BAIT, DEVIATED INSINCT, SPINEWENCH etc), wraps everything up with a visual companion to this excellent band’s music and lyrics. There’s a couple of labels involved in this, those kind folks at REFLECTIONS sent me this copy and I’m eternally grateful to them.

RESTLESS YOUTH-“STATE OF CONFUSION E.P” CD (D&G 14)
Oh how I love Dutch hardcore and RESTLESS YOUTH certainly bring life to my trampled ole body. This is the CD version of the “State Of Confusion” E.P. (put out by COMPLETE CONTROL RECORDS) with the addition of the “Bad Trip” demo. I’ll tell you what, this is incredible. A molten pit of ripping hardcore from start to finish. Full of fast catchy riffs and gnarly vocals to die for. Take early BAD BRAINS (before all the reggae stuff and at their best), ARTICLES OF FAITH (their hardcore stuff, after they ditched the Clash sound and started to worship BAD BRAINS), throw in a little early CIRCLE JERKS (energy) and some S.O.A. and you sure are going to become a restless youth and if you don’t get this, then you’ll be the one in a state of confusion. Coupled with the brilliant songs are great lyrics, all that make up for a truly great hardcore band. God, I love this CD.

BREAK IT UP-“NO SIDES” CD ( D&G 17)
Fucking stunner and there’s no other way to describe it. It’s hardcore to the bone and packs many a punch. Full of well honed melodies ala VISION, thumping basslines ala CHAIN OF STRENGTH, INSTED, DYS coupled with infectious hard riffs ala SSD, early NY/HC (which is interesting as they do a ripping cover of ANTIDOTES “Real Deal”). Lins’ vocals are definitely on par with Dave Franklin and totally complements the energy of BREAK IT UP. They lyrics seem to be scene related, in that they tell you that nothing is face value, trends come and go, hardcore definitely is not x-factor (stupid tv programme). No Sides is definitely one to look out for and proving that DEAD & GONE is a winner of a label, showcasing some of the best of British hardcore. Does it really matter that there’s ex members of VOORHEES and THIRTY SECONDS UTIL ARMAGEDDON? Not really because BREAK IT UP sound nothing like those bands.

WALK THE PLANK-“S/T” CD (D&G 18)
Aye lad, a blood thirsty bunch of ship wrecked pirates are WALK THE PLANK. Insurrection abound, on the good ship hardcore. It’s great to see the good captain Mr Lecky back in full force, with this blistering hardcore assault. A re-release of their limited 7” (on Zandor), plus extra demo tracks, along with video footage. Lecky is as angry as ever and I love the way his venom is woven into ship/pirate anecdotes. If the skull and crossbones of WALK THE PLANK were facing the royal crown, they’ve be sunk a long time ago. Firing cannon balls full of RIPCORD, DYS, NEGATIVE APPROACH, HAYMAKER styled harcore and scattering aside all in their path. A mighty CD ship mates and craftily rescued from Black beard’s treasure chest.

JUSTICE-“S/T” CD (D&G 19)
Oh this CD brings me back to my youth, well when I was 20 or so. It just oozes with riff laden melodic posi-core, say from the late 80’s. Not one ounce of generic hardcore, but the hardcore blood flows through their veins and it’s the real thing. Every song makes me feel good, happy to be alive and want to dance – a good thing for an old jaded fucker like me. Just think of UNDERDOG (minus all the reggae malarkey), VISION, 411, SUPERTOUCH and a little dose of NO FOR AN ANSWER. The lyrics totally complement the music, lots of soul searching, positive vibes, a belief in yourself and a thoughtful stance. A really wonderful CD and one I really recommend to anyone.

AUDIO KOLLAPS-“MUSIC FROM AN EXTREME SICK WORLD” CD (CAHRECS 025)
New songs from this German band, four punks playing late 80’s grindcore. They pretty much carry on from their previously released CD on EPISTROPHY. Just think of TERRORIZER, NAPALM DEATH, CARCASS, BOLT THROWER and their ilk. It’s all well done and there’s some bonus stuff here like their split 7” with WOLFPACK. Anti government type lyrics expressing their view of this extreme sick world, backing up their extreme sick music. Cool.

HEAD HITS CONCRETE-“THE KINGDOM COME UNDONE” CD (CAHRECS027)
There’s something like 55 songs on this CD (although it’s listed 47, there’s a few songs under one song title), which is a total blast from these Canadian noise mongers. Don’t worry there not all short songs ala 7 MINUTES OF NAUSEA, but are short all the same. Two of the songs are covers of HERESY and CROSSED OUT, which should give you an idea of where they’re coming from as they’re basically a hybrid of those bands. Off course there not a classic as them, they are excellent none the less. This is basically a discography of sorts, which includes their demo, split 10” and a couple of 7”s. All the lyrics are printed, which are excellent, along with some gig flyers (they played with the likes of RAMBO, DAMAGE DEPOSIT and stacks of grind/hardcore bands) and photos. Their 7” on P.F.C. has definitely the best songs on this comp. A worthy comp for all those of who love it fast, hard and mean – without jumping on the latest fastcore trend. Cool CD.

HOMOIRATUS-“APOCALYPSE” CD (CAHRECS029)
A sonic grindcore blast in the face from this Greek band. A medley of fast and slow blast beats of molten grind metal. A total wall of energy from start to finish. Lots of double bass drumming, heavy duty riffage (thank fuck no guitar solos), that will have fans of NAPALM DEATH, MASTER, TERRORIZER and I’m sure a slew of current metal influences floating around there. The lyrics deal with man’s own inhumanity, where he switches from his true feelings and uses technology to cover up his own failures and his total greed at the expense of our world. Certainly sounds familiar.

UNCURBED-“A NIGHTMARE IN DAYLIGHT” CD (CAHRECS030)
Absolutely stunning classic from a few years ago (originally realeased by the impressive Finn Records), and timely re-release from the mighty UNCURBED. This is some of the best dis-core you’ll get to hear, so make sure you snap it up this time. The sound quality, speed of the songs and everything about this CD is just so spot on. It brings back lots of good memories and when you read the lyrics the world is still as fucked up as it was back then – probably worse now with the current president (if you’d call him that) of the U$A. They attack governments and all their blind followers, whether they are perpetrators of unjust wars, global trade etc. The last time I heard these noise mongers was their equally impressive Punks On Patrol (SOUND POLLUTION) and they still continue to make me sit up and listen. If you’re unfamiliar with them then just think of STATE OF FEAR, DISCARD (“Death By A Lie” sounds not unlike “Death From Above”), SORE THROAT, DISFEAR, SKITSYSTEM and some unknown band called DISCHARGE. Thank fuck there’s bands like UNCURBED around these days to throw a spanner in the works of apathy, conformity, pop-punk and all those bastards chasing that elusive dollar from the hands of the music biz.

MISERY-“PRODUCTION THRU DESTRUCTION” CD (CAHRECS032)
This shows the re-release of this “classic” US crust release. It’s slow, menacing and totally brutal. Eerie metallic riffage and crust beats. They take as much from VENOM as much as they did from HELLBASTARD, DEVIATED INSTINCT, AXEGRINDER, DOOM. The lyrics ain’t pretty either.

THE PISSHEAD BLUES BAND-S/T CD (CAHRECS033)
Just like what the name of the band says. It’s acoustic blues/folkish music, with the gravel vocals of someone who’s spent too much time in the pub. Probably good hangover music, after the night before. Or old punk who can’t keep up with the grind/curst that Nick usually puts out.

TO WHAT END?-“CONCEALED BELOW THE SURFACE” CD (CAHRECS034)
I’m totally finding it hard to convey my love for this CD, as it along with WITCH HUNT has been the best CD I’ve had the opportunity of hearing this year. There’s so much going on here and that what makes it so special, because every time I play I hear a new bit, which only adds more to enjoy. Basically there’s a metallic Scandi crust beat, but melodic riffage peeps through this and nudges the harshness to the side for a few seconds and then lets it get on with it again. Then there’s the danceable slappy bass grooves ala PRONG, to name but a few. Fucking brilliant lyrics that make you angry, give you hope and make you wanna hug the next person to you as you shake your fist to the beauty that is TO WHAT END? Make sure this is one of the CDs you get.

MESRINE-“I CHOOSE MURDER” CD (CAHRECS036)
The menacing sound of their grind/death metal may make you wanna choose murder too. But, in the meantime, don’t try and kill anyone. Just listen to this slab of brutal metal, ala MORBID ANGEL etc as it’s awesome stuff – well if you like your metal and this Canadian lot know how to crank it out.

ACCION MUTANTE-“THE COMPLETE DIS-COGRAPHY” CD (CAHRECS037)
PHEW!!!! Where on earth do I start. Hell there’s 33 songs, of some of the most brutal metallic crust your gonna hear and by god you want to hear this. It’s got their 10”, 7”s, split 7”, comp tracks and a couple of bonus tracks. Totally fast, full of blast beats, monolithic double bass styled drumming and heavy riffage to grind your teeth to. Dark political lyrics, that only match the nastiness of the music. A meaty booklet accompanies the disc, full of photos, lyrics and reproductions of their releases. You like HELLKRUSHER, EXTINCTION OF MANKIND, DOOM, STATE OF FEAR, some death metal? Hmmmm, thought you might – then this is for you. Make sure you check out some amazing Polish crust.

BONES BRIGADE-“OLDER THAN SHIT HEAVIER THAN TIME” CD (COALITION)
I’ll be honest, I didn’t even know this incredible band were still going. But I was really stoked when I got this, as I been following them since their first 7” (on Belief Crisis) came out – which I was selling at the time. This CD includes that 7”, the Nothing Changes 7”, the split 7” with DFA, a couple of comp tracks and some unreleased songs – which when you add it up you’ve got one mean CD full of raging hardcore fury. In case your dumb, stupid or don’t like skating that’s their name comes from and their fast blend of ripping hardcore is just like riding a skateboard down hill at 60 mph. They’ll have you doing speed wobbles, flaying your arms all over the place and just when you thought you’d got the hang of the darn skateboard your flung into a pit full of slamming punks – cool or what! This CD is just fucking fantastic, there’s an 80’s influence (ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT, CHRIST ON PARADE, BONELESS ONES, SSD), but with a more up to date and modern beat. A couple of mecca covers included by such heroes of DEAD BOYS, SUICIDALS, ADOLESCENTS make this such an urgent release, don’t let it roll by.

CRIME DESIRE-“WE HATE ALL LIFE” CD (COALITION)
Wacko hardcore with a slight crossover/powerviolence bend to it. I don’t know if any of you have heard SPAZZTIC BLUR? They had an LP on EARACHE, which is full on grind/crossover stuff. But their demo stuff before this is wacko hardcore stuff that, that CRIME DESIRE are very similar too. It’s great, off the wall stuff, full off curve balls and great moshy riffage.

CAN’T DECIDE-S/T CD (BOSTAGE5145)
After the mighty HERESY and RIPCORD split up, JOHN (HERESY), JOHN (RIPCORD), BAZ (RIPCORD & HERESY), along with SIMON (LUNATIC FRINGE) decided to form CAN’T DECIDE. Which became a complete departure from their previous bands’ full on fast thrashy hardcore assault, well LUNATIC FRINGE weren’t as mad as the other bands but they had their moments (from the 2 eps that I used to have). CAN’T DECIDE were on a different train of thought, playing really passionate tuneful melodic hardcorepunk. Very much in the vein of SNFU, I guess you could add more, but they stand out the most and are probably the best in their genre. Their two amazing 12”s and split 7” w/ MEATFLY (Can’t Decide’s cover of Kraut’s “All Twisted” is miles better than the original), and their demo are included here. Along with some words by Baz, lyrics, cool photos, gig flyers and the like make up one essential CD. A part of the UK hardcore history that you need.

SOFAHEAD-“PRE MARITAL PREDICAMENT” CD (BTRCRS004)
Another blast from the past, and a treat for all those who love tuneful melodic punkrock. Formed from the ashes of the mighty DAN, who honed this sound to a fine art with the numerous releases (no point going into them all here, I still have them all and hopefully Aston will get the chance to re-release DAN too), and they still get airplay on the ole turntable now and again. But SOFAHEAD are just wonderful, I did their stuff as it’s so much more honest and all that, created before the waves of grunge and pop-punk explosions. This band stand shoulders high above all that shit. This CD contains both LPs and they’re fucking amazing. Insightful lyrics too, but not totally black and white, they’re gritty and full of real life. It’s brilliant that this stuff is available again, make sure you get it while you can and let the memories engulf you while you play this.

HERESY-“1985-‘87” CD (BTRCRS007)
All I can say is, WHY THE FUCK DID IT TAKE SOME UK LABEL SO FUCKING LONG TO RE-RELEASE OLD HERESY SONGS? C’mon, one of the best hardcore bands on the planet, never mind old Blighty. It’s a sin that it’s only coming out now. But thank fuck, BOSS TUNEAGE has had the sense to release this, instead of the bland indie crap that they usually used to throw out. This is such and incredible release and the first of three HERESY re-issues (hey, I’m already crapping myself and this is only the first). As the title suggests, it’s all their stuff up to 87, from their beginnings in 1985. Their first studio demo, the demo for the “Never Healed” flexi (which if you have the original flexi, I have it and was selling it back in the day, but this sound totally shines through and after hearing this version of how it was supposed to sound, you’ll never play the flexi again), a couple of rehearsal tracks and their famous “Thanks” ep tracks. From start to finish the sound it amazing and covers the line-up of Reevsy, Kalv and Steve. Then Kalv, Steve, John and Mitch, which funny enough both line-up’s played on the split LP (w/ Concrete Sox), but I guess this maybe for the next CD. Inside is a history of HERESY, as told by Kalv, lots of great/rare photos, lyrics, gig flyers and it’s all wrapped up in a really snazzy looking digi-pack. Amazing CD, make sure you get it, totally made my day.

IPANEMA-“ME, ME, ME” CD (BTRC001)
Right, this is the first release for the re-invented THE BOSSUNGEAGE RECORDING COMPANY, don’t know why the name change, but it’s quite an interesting release to say the least. I normally don’t go for this stuff at all and have probably slated this band in the past, but the songs on ME, ME, ME are off such a high calibre that I can’t help not liking them. Wiz from the defunct MEGA CITY FOUR is the main song writer here and you can tell the songs come from someone with experience. It’s tuneful, melodic, kinda indie pop type stuff, but IPANEMA are full of character. I’m grasping at straws with I liken them to THE CHARLATANS, THE CURE, THE FALL.

JUDGE-“WHAT IT MEANT – THE COMPLETE DISCOGRAPHY” CD (REV122)
I remember buying their “New York Crew” 7”, when it first came out on Schism, at Rough Trade Records in London and I’ve totally loved that 7” since then and I still do. REV reissued it a few years later, when the band had added some other guys and the “BRING IT DOWN” LP also came out too, which has lots of great metallic riffage and good songs. Mind you, I’m glad they did release that version of the LP and not the one that became the super-rare “CHUNG KING CAN SUCK IT”, because I’ve had the 10” bootleg of it from the late 80’s and you’ll get the change to hear it on this CD and you’ll see why it wasn’t released (because it does suck). I have to say that I feel that their “THERE WILL BE QUIET” 7” is totally forgettable, but it’s here as this is the complete discography after all. Along with all this is one demo song “Just Like You”, over the years I’ve had something like 4 or 5 different Judge demos (no I can’t remember what they are), but surely someone involved in the putting together of this should know? Huh! Maybe not, for being so sXe and all that, I guess it’s hard to remember things? There’s a cool booklet, with a little story by Porcell, lyrics and lots of photos. I do like the little disc itself as it looks like a record.

OI POLLOI-“PIGS FOR SLAUGHTER” CD & DVD (REJ1000032)
Ah, 20 years of @narcho-punk chaos from one of the longest running @narcho punk bands going today - despite having as many line-ups as they’ve played gigs. It doesn’t seem like nearly 20 years ago that I sent away for their demos, how the years fly by. I’ve still got those demos, and some comp 7”s (the one’s the first appeared on) still in my record collection. I even found one of their first t-shirt’s (the cover of the split LP w/A.OA) I got from them and it was put in a box in my attic in 1988, along with other sutff. There’s 23 songs here, from most of their various releases (some more obscure than others) and spanning those 20 years indeed. They may have lost members along they way, but they never lost their integrity, anger and their diy direct action over the years. There’s a big booklet with a story from Deek (whatever his Gaelic name is) and lyrics to the songs. If that’s not enough, theirs a mighty DVD, following them on tour and showing the political aspects of what the group believes in. It’s all very inspiring and I’m really glad that the band, and myself are still into it all these years later.

ANONYMOUS TIP-“GREETINGS FROM WASTELAND” CD (10:10:01)
OK, the few ska bit’s in this are shite, the lyrics equally so. But I’m drawn to them, because I like their style of fast melodic punk, full of neat riffs and catchy choruses and I love all those drum-rolls. Not an essential CD, but I’ve heard a lot worse get a lot more praise. If they kept it diy and sang about more interesting things apart from girls and all that la, la, la (there’s a million fucking bands out there doing that, as from now says I “it’s so fucking yesterday” get yourself up to date – ha, ha).
Well, there’s no address for the label on the CD, it’s got a barcode on it, so it says it all really doesn’t it.

THE FAT CATS-“DEADBEAT” CD (10:10:03)
I hate this. Rock’a’billy, ska punk shite. Yuk.

SNUFF-“SIX OF ONE, HALF A DOZEN OF THE OTHER – 1986/2002” DOUBLE CD (10:12:09)
When their first 7” came out I played it to death, and still do. Saw them a couple of times around this time too. Even thought their LP with all the TV tunes was cool. Then I pretty much forgot about them. They changed their members, morphed into different bands. Was watching MTV one day and saw a video of em and thought to myself, what the fuck has happened to you lot (and never wanted to hear them again), a symptom of that FAT/ska syndrome that plagued the punk scene for years and not something I want to happen again. Anyway, there’s this CD. I have to say that I love it as it’s raw as fuck and full of damn fast tuneful songs that made me love them in the first place. Full of rare/unreleased stuff which are cool. It’s definitely worth getting because the no listening 7” is on here and off course the Tiffany cover. If like me you gave up on them, but feel the same as what I do then – then go get it.

BILLY NO MATES-“WE ARE LEGION” CD (12:10:10)
Duncan from SNUFF, doing everything here. It’s like early Snuff, therefore excellent. If you like em, chances are you have this, if you used to like em, then you will probably like this.

ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE/SEND MORE PARAMEDICS-“TALES TOLD BY DEAD MEN” CD (IATDE024/HBR 011-2)
Cross Atlantic monster mosh here, a split release between Z.A. (USA)/S.M.P. (UK), also labels HELLBENT (USA)/IATDE (UK). The former band is made up of ex-members of SHAI HULUD, who were dug up from some cemetery in New York, brought to life with a heavy dose of crossover metal and ended up producing 5 fast as fuck full on metal thrashers, that ooze energy and groove. Totally excellent for the genre that it is. Meanwhile, S.M.P. a firm fave here, continue with an equally excellent metal assault. Straight ahead blast beats and monstrous riffage all gelled together in the only way that works for them. The booklet is stunning, great artwork/layout from Mid (Bonehive/Bait), with the bands lyrics/photos. Totally cool if you’re into SLAYER, IRON MAIDEN and a dose of metalcore bands.

APOCALYPSE BABYS-“ALCOHOLACAUST” CD
Good follow on to their last CD. Full of blistering punk rock songs. They have a late 70’s/early 80’s vibe going, with a touch of the RAMONES/MOTORHEAD thrown in for good measure. Top notch traditional punk stuff.
